The First Marines

aw 300 over the weekend. Bloody, brutal, gory, violent, self-righteous...and one cool movie! I saw it this weekend (without the wife...we saw Music and Lyrics last weekend.)

The Spartans were the first Marines, and in this movie you see a fantabulous, architypal, death-before-surrender ethic that you almost don't see any more. And it only made $70 million in its opening weekend with no stars to speak of.

Check out the trailer if you don't know about it. Severed heads never looked so beautiful.

I saw if Friday. Enjoyed it a lot. It was visually stunning and pretty much remained true to the graphic novel concept.

If you are looking for great dialogue, this isn't the movie for you. It's about Spartans.

Although the fighting in the shade line was pretty good. These are basic guys with simple and clear values. I like 'em.

Excellent movie, not so much for following the detailed facts, but the true spirit of what they did, and what animated the west ever since - which REALLY irritates the multi-culties, if your interested, I posted on it on my site.

I think it's fun to read the reviews deriding 'dino-action hero' dialog such as the "fight in the shade" line, having no clue that it's taken from some of the oldest of the dead white guys, Herodotus & Plutarch.
